Students' Feedback

Review by experienced Korean language learner.

At the end of every level, we ask students to fill up a feedback form, asking what they liked and what Hanok could improve on. Some their feedback can be found here

We checked on students' progress who have completed the course here and continuing their Korean language studies at other schools. Here's their feedback below.

  1. What do you like most about your learning experience at Hanok?
Interactive nature of the lessons conducted, and drawing real examples from Korean culture such as popular Kpop or Kdrama, which are relevant to our objectives of learning Korean.

2.How has Hanok helped in your learning your current advanced learning?
It has provided a strong foundation in terms of the basic grammar rules in Korean.

3.What could be improved?
More vocabulary that is relevant to daily life (e.g. market setting, map reading, asking for directions, public transport,etc.). If possible, include listening tests to test the students' listening ability. In my opinion, this is the best way to improve our Korean as native speakers speak fast and through listening tests, it would certainly enhance our ability to listen and interpret the contents of the conversation(s) or context involved.

4. Would you recommend your friends to learn at Hanok?  Why?
Yes. Hanok is able to provide a strong foundation through simple to understand
methodologies. The teacher, Ms Wann is an excellent teacher. She is able to use interactive methods and in some cases, real life context to help us apply the language and use it as closely as the natives as possible. She is also well versed in relevant topics such as Korean culture and Kpop so as to relate to the students better.

1) Hanok's classes were very interactive and the use of picture cards were very very useful. Although it is a method to teach growing children, nevertheless, a very effective method in 'embedding' Korean vocabulary into the students' memory.

2) Hanok's classes as enabled me to speak Korean more boldly as the teacher encourages speaking Korean in class at all times. (Although drinking soju would cause me to speak 'better' as I would have no idea what I am saying and would just continue talking like a machine gun - not scientifically proven though)

3) The vocabulary part could definitely be improved. Though the teacher does make up for it with her enforcement of constant repetition of grammar practice

4) I would definitely recommend my friends to Hanok. However my friends who are actually interested in the language are all at a higher level than me. (one of them did the subbing for running man episodes and the other took the TOPIK exam already...)

What do you like most about your learning experience at Hanok?
I like the games because it helps us in memorizing the words and there is alot of interaction among the students.

How has Hanok helped in your learning your current advanced learning?
The weekly spelling and presentation is very helpful as we won't be able to practise much Korean outside of class.

What could be improved?
Maybe some videos will be nice..

Would you recommend your friends to learn at Hanok?  Why?
Yes, besides the flexible teaching methods, the courses are affordable as well.

I really appreciated that much work is put on improving our basics and that the lessons gave us time to fully understand what we learnt. At my current school, sometimes I do feel that many things are rushed through and it was hard to absorb everything.

I also think that having weekly quizzes is a really effective way to make us study and the games used in classes were fun. While level tests do help, I think continuous assessments are more effective and maybe more quizzes focusing on vocabulary could be given.

The many speaking practices were also really effective. I find that Hanok's class spent more time on speaking than my current school.

I felt that the changing of the books from the Hanok handouts to the Easy Korean for Foreigners textbook was a little hard to follow. And it would be great if we could have just followed one set of books from the beginning to the end.

It was really fun learning at Hanok, so I would still recommend my friends to study at Hanok. And I was learning at a comfortable pace that allowed me to remember and apply what I learnt every week.
