안녕!!
Do you know the 한자 for "안녕" is 安寧, which means peace.
So 안녕히 가세요 does not just mean "bye", it's telling people to go peacefully.
안녕히 주무세요 - sleep in peace.
They sound quite funny in English, so inauspicious! Students always get a good laugh when I do a literal translation of these expressions.
